Marking an important milestone for the MICIE project, the final event at the EIT House in Brussels saw a powerful opening keynote by Ms Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, for the “Charting the Future: Innovation for Carbon-Neutral Islands in Europe” event. In her prerecorded message, she underscored the crucial role of research and innovation (R&I) in achieving the climate and energy targets of Cyprus and Malta as outlined in their National Energy and Climate Plans.
Ms Metsola praised MICIE for its impactful collaboration in bridging the climate innovation gap and updating R&I targets for a sustainable future. The event showcased MICIE’s final results, a significant step in guiding both islands toward a greener, more sustainable future. Ms Metsola’s endorsement and encouragement highlight MICIE’s pivotal role in shaping the path to a carbon-neutral future for European islands, emphasizing the critical role of innovation in meeting climate goals. The MICIE project, under her spotlight, stands as a beacon of hope and progress, urging continued collaboration for a resilient future.
