The staff of the Sustainable Energy Laboratory would like to welcome the two new summer interns, Antigoni and Renos.
Antigoni Tsiarta has received a BSc in Civil Engineering from Cyprus University of Technology on June 2015. After her graduation she did a 4-month internship in Switzerland through IAESTE program as a Research Assistant. Her research was focusing in material testing (slender elements made from high performance concrete prestressed with CFK fibers) performing fatigue, durability and fire tests. After that she gained a financial grant from Erasmus+ placement program and she had the opportunity to spend 7 months in Denmark, working in the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) as a Lab Assistant. There she was dealing with triaxial compression tests in sand trying to determine the characteristics of the material such as the cohesion and the angle of friction for different sand densities. Her interests are focusing on research and development and she is very concern on social youth issues. She wants to continue her studies in a master program abroad and challenge herself.
Eirinaios Chatzimarkou is a fourth year undergraduate student in Mechanical Engineering and Material Science and Engineering at the Cyprus University of Technology. During his third year he had the opportunity to work in Cyprus Authority of Electricity in the Power Station of Dekeleia for two months. This internship offered him the possibility to understand the procedure that is used to produce electricity and the thermodynamic cycle that is required for this operation. His most significant task was to maintain the steam turbines and internal combustion engines at the engineering department of the station. In the future he would like to continue his professional career in the environmental sector and the way that we have to manage the problem of global warming and the greenhouse effect, in order to have a better and ‘greener’ environment.
