The Sustainable Energy Laboratory of the Cyprus University of Technology accepts applications for a limited number of posts in Postgraduate Programs of Doctoral Level:
1. Energy and Meteorology:
Description: Electricity production from Photovoltaics (PVs) is heavily dependent on local meteorological phenomena, especially cloud type and cloud cover. Thus, in order to further promote the penetration of small-scale roof-top PVs in cities, the effect of clouds on PVs and the prediction of electricity production from these systems needs to be understood and any problems should be resolved. The current project addresses this topic and a software will be developed based on a novel methodology (patent pending) for the prediction electricity production from PVs.
Qualifications: Successful candidates should possess Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from an accredited University in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Physics. They should have experience in computer software (C++/Matlab/GIS/etc) and should be willing to engage in interdisciplinary work on energy and meteorology.

2.Renewable Power Systems
Description: A modern, power system must provide a reliable, cost-effective, safe and environmentally responsible service. As electricity prices increase and the effects of global warming worsen, it is essential to utilise renewable resources more effectively. The research will focus on the development of an optimisation methodology towards a 100% renewable power system for isolated systems. The successful applicant is expected to develop a power system analysis tool accounting for all sectors of the power system that need to be considered when integrating large penetrations of renewable energy: the electricity and transport sectors. Various 100% renewable power systems will be optimised both for efficiency as well as for cost.
Qualifications: BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Desirable attributes include: Strong background in mathematical optimization, programming, power generation systems analysis, power systems operation and control. Interest in renewable energy, storage technologies and smartgrids will be considered an advantage.
